- Descripción
- The following article highlights several services which are common to two very important institutions in the present informationsociety: public libraries and citizen networks. Amongst these services, those seen as more important could be, on the one hand, access to information, new technologies and the Internet and on the other, training in the use of these and in handling the information obtained from them so as to turn it into knowledge, that is, everything that is related to digital and information literacy. Without a doubt, these factors make up the basis for necessary cooperation which would have a great goal: the setting up of an information network for the community within which all institutions able to provide information would intervene, under the guidance and joint management of public libraries and citizen networks. The article focusses its attention on the reasons behind and the benefits of establishing a joint network between public libraries and citizen networks in those cities where both services currently coexist.
