  • Analyses how 'reading' as an activity can lead to higher learning and success in life. Explains the present day domination of technology relegating books and reading habit to a secondary position causing serious concern on overall development of individuals and society. Opines that the same learning society of 'information age' has a greater challenge in making everyone up-to-date and aware of latest developments which in turn necessitates good reading habit. Compares the nature of those having and not having good reading habit. Finds that good readers often know where to find good books and they have better reading skills. Stresses the importance of inculcating reading habit in children in the sensitive age group of 8-13 years. Discusses the development of reading skills and learning in the school enviroment. Emphasises the need for wide support of parents, user friendly libraries and society at large for development of "reading habit".
