This article describes the work done in monitoring the careers of LIS (library and information sciences) graduates in Spain. These analyses define some of the features of the labour market which the graduates gain access to, such as its volume and dynamism but also relatively quite poor conditions. Despite the importance of the public sector, the private sector increasingly employs young professionals. Equally, job opportunities grow more in percentage terms in information centres than in archives and libraries. This kind of analysis must be taken into account by universities when designing their LIS curricula.
